Day one...

The troops were on the road at 7:00 a.m. on the nose as planned for one block and at 7:01 a.m., a quick turn around for Drake's cell phone. An uneventful trip to the airport, flight to Minneapolis to find the plane for Vancouver in the hanger for maintenance. This turned out to be a blessing when traveling with an 18 and 16 (to be) year old who just had coffee cake for breakfast. After a hearty lunch at Quiznos (Arby's for Logan) we climbed aboard the Airbus for Vancouver (3 hour 8 min flight). The flight was again uneventful and Canadian customs a breeze. Avis rental car was another story where we spent close to an hour getting a rental car. Thank goodness Janie has more patience then us boys and got the problem resolved....

We traversed the city of Vancouver and found the Hampton Inn & Suites. Checked in and then start our walking adventure. The hotel looks down on the BC Stadium where they held the opening and closing ceremony and awards for the Olympics. You would think we were looking at a run down mess that should be torn down. We've learned they are adding a roof to the building and redoing the interior for Soccer (Yeah!).

We walked to City Centre and down to the cruise ship dock. Then after Drake had a street vendor hotdog snack (Janie was jealous but he shared one bite) we wondered through Gas Town. This is the original downtown of Vancouver. We settled on the Old Spaghetti Factory for ole times sake (KC Location Closed). Food was great and the boys got on a roll, Logan with a laughing attack and great conversation.

Then a walk to China Town that was pretty dead and frankly a lot of wierd street people hanging around. So we quickly worked our way down to the water and watched some Dragon Boats practicing for the Festival this week. The walk along the water front was much nicer and we were able to see the Hockey Stadium for the Kanucks and Olympics.

Now for an early night since the few nights before we left were with very little sleep thanks to Mother Nature. Yes we had water come through our ceiling and had to replace a sump pump. No water in the basement, but we feel much better leaving the house with a new pump including a battery backup (should have done this years ago).

End of Day One....
